Abstract
The aim of bachelor's thesis is to evaluate commuting patterns within the Riga metropolitan area. This will be achieved by identifying the primary commuting flows, modes of transportation utilised, and the demographic composition of the population involved. The thesis examines the most significant form of population mobility in terms of the number of individuals involved. This form of mobility serves as a crucial indicator for defining functional urban areas and analysing the economic development of regions. This study analyses the dynamics and intensity of commuting in recent years. The analysis was based on statistical data, survey and project results, and geospatial analysis tools in ArcGIS Pro. The findings offer valuable insights into the attractiveness of Riga for labour and elucidate the trends influencing the evolution of the labour market in various regions across Latvia. The thesis consists of an annotation, an introduction, six chapters and conclusions, as well as a list of references used and one appendix. The total text is 89 pages. Keywords: commuting patterns, daily mobility, modes of transport, Riga metropolitan area, geospatial analysis, GIS, labour market.
