Abstract
Grāmatu recenziju mērķis ir piedāvāt lasītājiem noderīgu informāciju un rūpīgu jaunizdoto darbu novērtējumu aizraujošā un izklaidējošā veidā. Šis pētījums tiecas atklāt, kā kritiķi pauž savu viedokli un kādus valodnieciskos un stilistiskos līdzekļus izmanto. Teorētiskā daļa (De Beaugrande and Dressler (1981), Fowler (1996), Thorne (1997), Rampolla (2010)) skar recenziju žanru un tā lingvistiskās īpatnības, kā arī skaidro ar diskursa analīzi saistītos jēdzienus. Šī metode tika izraudzīta, lai pētītu divpadsmit BBC History Magazine numuros publicētās grāmatu recenzijas. Izdevās noskaidrot, ka auditorija tiek piesaistīta ar oriģinālu un izteiksmīgu valodu, sarunvalodai pietuvinātiem izteicieniem un alūzijām. Pārliecināšana tiek arī panākta ar piemērotu recenzijas struktūru.
The purpose of the book review genre is to offer the readers useful information and a thorough assessment of newly published works in an inviting and entertaining manner. This study aims to reveal how the reviewers express their opinion and what linguistic and stylistic means they employ. The theoretical background (De Beaugrande and Dressler (1981), Fowler (1996), Thorne (1997), Rampolla (2010)) concerns the review genre and its linguistic peculiarities, as well as explains the notions necessary for the discourse analysis. This method was selected to study book reviews published in twelve issues of BBC History Magazine. The results show that the audience is attracted with original and expressive language, lowered degree of formality, and allusions. Persuasive effect is further achieved with an appropriately chosen review structure.
