Abstract

Nozīme lingvistikā nav vienkārša. Līdzās centrālajai, denotatīvajai jeb vārdnīcās atzīmētajai nozīmei lingvistikā tiek atzīta arī asociatīvā konotatīvā nozīme, kura ļauj rakstītājam vai runātājam paust attieksmi vai emocijas. Redaktora slejas ir žurnālistikas stila forma, kura pat mudina autoru izteikt viedokli. Tādējādi konotācija ir paņēmiens, kā redaktori var paust viņu viedokli, emocijas, attieksmi vai vērtējumu, nezaudējot profesionālo stāju. Šī pētniecības darba mērķis ir izpētīt konotatīvo nozīmi angļu valodā un noskaidrot darbības vārdu ar konotācijām sastopamību laikraksta „The Guardian” redaktora slejās. Pēc izpētes darba veikšanas, secināts, ka konotatīvie darbības vārdi, kuri lietoti „The Guardian” redaktora slejās, ļauj to autoriem paust emocijas un vērtējumus, atklāti tos neizsakot. Meaning in linguistics is not simple. Alongside the central denotative, or dictionary meaning, the associative connotative meaning allowing the speaker or writer to express their emotions is recognized in linguistics. Editorial is a form of journalistic writings that even invites the author’s attitude or emotions to be stated. In this way connotation is a tool how editors can express their opinion, emotions, attitude or evaluation without losing their professional posture. The purpose of this research paper is to study the connotative meaning in English and to investigate the occurrences of connotative verbs in ‘The Guardian’ editorials. After carrying out the research, it was concluded that the connotative verbs used in ‘The Guardian’ editorials allow the authors to express their emotions and evaluations without openly stating them.
