Abstract
Tūrisms Latvijā 20. gadsimta sākumā no atpūtas un sporta veida kļuva par
tautsaimniecības nozari un ieľēma nozīmīgu lomu latviešu nacionālās pašapziľas veidošanā.
Zinātniskā darba mērķis ir apzināt valsts paveikto nacionālā tūrisma popularizēšanā.
20. gadsimta 30. gados tūrisms pēc ārvalstu parauga nonāca valsts resora pārvaldībā.
Sākotnēji valsts tūrisma politika bija vērsta uz starptautisko tūrismu, nodibinot autoritāro
reţīmu, K. Ulmanis iniciēja nacionālā tūrisma ideoloģiju un valsts politiku, kas vērsta uz
iekšējo tūrismu. 30. gadu otrā pusē Latvijā tika izvērsta nacionālā tūrisma propagandas
kustība „Apceļo dzimto zemi!”, kas sekmēja Latvijas tūrisma infrastruktūras izveidi un
labiekārtošanu. 30. gadu beigās Latvija konkurēja ar citām Baltijas valstīm, lai pievilinātu
ārzemju viesus un celtu valsts tūrisma līmeni.
During the start of 20th century tourism in Latvia from leisure transformed to a significant sector of country’s economy. It played an important role in the building of the national awareness. Aim of this research identifies country's measures in the promotion of national tourism. In 1931 following the example from Western European countries, the government of Latvia decided to create a department for tourism management. Initially, the national tourism policy was focused on international tourism, but the establishment of authoritarian regime made significant corrections. President of the state K. Ulmanis created public policy measures focusing on national tourism. There was created the information campaign Travel around Your Home Land which contributed to the development of country’s infrastructure and raised the level of national tourism.
