Abstract
Master’s thesis, "The Childhood Narrative in the Museums of Latvia," aims to investigate the representation of childhood from the 1920s-1930s and 1970s-1980s in museums of Latvia. Museums have been selected for this study due to their significant role as memory institutions that shape contemporary public understanding of childhood. By employing an ethnographic approach and cultural mapping, the study examines the diverse objects in museum collections and their interpretations. The findings suggest that the portrayal of childhood in museums is deeply intertwined with Latvia's political history, society, culture, ideology, and statehood. Museums predominantly reflect adults' perspectives and objectives for children, offering limited insight into the culture created by children themselves.
