Abstract
This thesis is devoted to a queueing system problem related to the optimal procedure scheduling at a digestive diseases center. Linear programming was used to develop a one-day procedure schedule that meets the center’s requirements, with the objective of serving as many patients as possible during the day. After constructing the optimal daily plan, a simulation software ”AnyLogic” was used to examine which patient service method is more efficient – scheduling patients for a specific time and a specific room, or scheduling them for a specific time only. Finally, a stochastic model was developed to determine the optimal sequence of a predefined set of procedures in each room. Using simulations, it was assessed whether improvements in patient waiting times can be observed in comparison with a manually created procedure sequence.
