Metaforu lietojums rakstos par ''Brexit''

Abstract

Pētījumā aplūkots metaforu lietojums saistībā ar Apvienotās Karalistes izstāšanos no Eiropas Savienības – mūsdienās tas ir vēl nebijis politisks lēmums. Pētījuma mērķis bija noteikt, cik bieži metaforas tiek lietotas dažādos ziņu rakstos par “Brexit” un kādas ir galvenās metaforu funkcijas. Kā empīriskā izpētes metode darbā izmantota diskursa analīze. Tās rezultāti atklāja, ka rakstos bieži tiek lietotas no fiziskām parādībām aizgūtas metaforas, lai izskaidrotu sarežģītos “Brexit” procesus. Turklāt metaforas tiek izmantotas, lai paustu kritiku, norādot, ka Apvienotajai Karalistei nevajadzētu izstāties no Eiropas Savienības. Jāsecina, ka metaforām ziņu diskursā ir dažādas funkcijas un tās īpaši efektīvi pauž ideoloģiskus uzskatus.

This research looks at the use of metaphors in the context of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union, which is an unprecedented political decision. The aim of the thesis was to determine how frequently metaphors are used in various news articles about Brexit and what the main functions of metaphors are. The empirical research method used in the paper was discourse analysis. The results demonstrated that metaphors from physical domains are frequently used in the articles to explain the complex Brexit processes. Moreover, metaphors are applied to express criticism, implying that the United Kingdom should not leave the European Union. It can be concluded that metaphors realize a variety of functions in news discourse, and are especially effective at conveying ideological beliefs.
