Abstract
The doctrine, practise and main problems of the Hesychastic ontological transformation has been analyzed according to the ascetical theology of Bishop Ignatius Bryanchaninov (1867). Bryanchaninov interpreted Hesychastic asceticism in broadest sense - it is universally-Christian Spirituality par exellence. We have the right to speak about presence of especially exclusive direction within the limits of tradition of Russian Hesychasm and Russian Orthodox Church as a whole, which is an intrinsic factor in the process of formation of the specifically Russian Orthodox type of self-awareness. The Bryanchaninov’s teaching is systematically and critically evaluated in its contents, paying particular attention to the Hellenic nature of the Orthodox ascetical spirituality and its exclusivistic character in the context of Byzantine- Russian imperialism.
