Abstract
This bachelor’s thesis, entitled "Social media as personal information tools", explores social media as tools for the acquisition of personal information. In the digital age, social media has become one of the primary sources of information, and more and more people use it not only for communication but also for searching and evaluating information. The aim of the study is to analyze how users utilize social media to obtain personal information, what factors influence their trust in these sources, and what risks and challenges are associated with it. The theoretical part of the thesis examines the concept and classification of social media, their role in information acquisition, user behaviour patterns, privacy aspects, and describes types of personal information. The empirical part of the research applies a quantitative research method - a survey - to analyze user habits in acquiring information through social media. The results of the study show that most respondents use social media both for daily needs and for obtaining specific information; however, the level of trust in the information found on social media is relatively low. Respondents emphasize the need for critical evaluation skills and highlight the importance of privacy risks. Key strategies used by users to assess the credibility of information were also identified.
