Terminu atveide tulkojot populārzinātnisko medicīnas literatūru

Abstract

Šajā maģistra darbā pētīta par krūts vēzi izdotā populārzinātniskās medicīnas literatūras Latvijas un Amerikas Savienoto Valstu grāmatu tirgū, populārzinātniskās medicīnas literatūras tulkošana, terminoloģijas izveides principi, terminu iedalījums un to atveides stratēģijas. Darba mērķis ir noskaidrot kā latviešu valodā atveidoti dažādi medicīnas termini un piedāvāt atveides variantus latviešu valodā neatveidotiem medicīnas terminiem, kuri tiek izmantoti populārzinātniskās medicīnas žanra grāmatā “The Breast Cancer Book: A Trusted Guide for You and Your Loved Ones”. Atlasītie termini tika analizēti tos iedalot kategorijās pēc to etimoloģiskās diferenciācijas jeb izcelšanās atšķirībām – aizguvumi, kalki un mantota leksika. Katrā kategorijā tie sistematizēti arī pēc struktūras, tos iedalot divās grupās – vienvārda termini un salikti termini. Darba procesā tika caurskatīti latviešu ārstu un veselības iestāžu veidotie informatīvie un zinātniskie medicīnas teksti un vārdnīcas. Visi veiktie atveidojumi un tulkojumi apkopoti terminu glosārijā, kur terminiem blakus norādīti skaidrojumi grāmatas informatīvā materiāla papildināšanai. Tika secināts, ka medicīnas terminoloģijas atveidē pamatā tiek izmantoti internacionāli termini, atsevišķos gadījumos medicīnas terminoloģija tiek atveidota neprecīzi vai arī netiek izmantoti uz mērķvalodu orientēti atveides varianti. Tāpat secināts, ka ar medicīnu saistītu tekstu tulkošanai vajadzīgo informāciju ir nepieciešams apkopot un sistematizēt, lai radītu uzticamas informācijas telpu.

This master’s thesis examines the book market of popular scientific medical literature published on breast cancer in Latvia and the United States of America, translation of popular scientific medical literature, principles of development of terminology, division of terms, and strategies for their rendition. The paper aims to ascertain how various medical terms have been renditioned in Latvian and offer variants for medical terms that are not renditioned in Latvian but are in the book “The Breast Cancer Book: A Trusted Guide for You and Your Loved Ones”. The selected terms were analysed by categorizing them according to their etymological differentiation — loans, calques, and inherited vocabulary. Then they were systematized by structure in each category - divided into single-word terms and compound terms. Informative, scientific medical texts and dictionaries, developed by Latvian doctors and health institutions, were reviewed in the master’s thesis. All representations and translations made were summarised in the glossary of terms, where explanations accompany the terms to supplement the book’s informative material. The analysis allows the author to conclude that the used terms are mainly of international origin, but in some cases, medical terms are imprecise or do not use target language-oriented renditions. Also, the information necessary to translate medical texts needs to be collected and systematized to create a reliable information spread.
