Abstract
Mikroplastmasas vertikālā migrācija Velnezera nogulumos. Landratova K., darba vadītājs Dr .geol. prof. N. Stivriņš, zinātniskā konsultante Mg. sc. M. Barone.
Vertical migration of microplastics in sediments of lake Velnezers. Landratova K., thesis advisor Dr. geol. Prof . N. Stivriņš, scientific consultant Mg. sc. M. Barone. Bachelor’s thesis, 65 pages, 29 images, 3 tables, 78 sources, 5 attachments. In the bachelor’s thesis, a study on the potential for sediment microplastic contamination as a marker of the beginning of the Anthropocene epoch has been conducted, determining the potential lower boundary of microplastic vertical migration in Velnezers. A literature review and analysis has been carried out regarding the research area, the history of plastics in the territory of Latvia, and previous studies on microplastics as a marker of the Anthropocene epoch. The empirical part involves processing of microplastic samples of sediments, visual and chemical composition analysis of microplastics, loss on ignition analysis. The findings were correlated with a 14C depth-age model to determine the dispersion of microplastics and the potential limit of vertical migration in sediments. Key words: anthropocene, microplastics, vertical migration, ATR-FTIR, LDIR, LOI.
