Abstract
-Darba izpētes priekšmets ir mājas kaķis (Felis catus) latviešu folklorā tradicionālos un mūsdienu priekšstatos. Latviešu folklorā kaķis ir bieži sastopams personāžs, bet lielāka vērība latviešu folkloristikā tam nav pievērsta. Lai izzinātu, kāda nozīme kaķim ir tradicionālos folkloras priekšstatos, tiek interpretēti dažādu folkloras formu – pasaku, ticējumu, mīklu un teiku – teksti. Balstoties uz autores veiktās aptaujas rezultātiem, tiek analizēts un salīdzināts, kādi priekšstati par kaķi joprojām funkcionē mūsdienās un kas mainījies. Tiek secināts, ka priekšstati atspoguļo ne tikai kaķa būtību. Kaķa tēls stāsta arī par procesiem, kas notiek sabiedrībā.

The cat in Latvian folklore: traditional and contemporary interpretation The research object of the work is a domestic cat (Felis catus) in Latvian folklore in traditional and contemporary interpretation. The character of cat often occurs in Latvian folklore but it does not get greater attention in the Latvian folkloristics. In order to find out the meaning of a cat in the traditional perception of folklore, different forms of folklore like fairy-tales, beliefs, riddles and legend are interpreted. The results of authoress managed inquiry makes a basis for analyzing and comparing what notions about the cat are still functioning and what has changed. The conclusions are that notions about the cat display not only its nature but also narrate about processes that take place in society.
