Svētā Grāla motīvi Umberto Eko daiļradē

Abstract

Maģistra darbs “Svētā Grāla motīvi Umberto Eko daiļradē” sastāv no četrām galvenajām nodaļām. Pirmā nodaļa iepazīstina ar mīta un leģendas jēdzieniem, raksturo mitoloģiskā domāšanas veida iezīmes un funkcijas, kā arī izskata uzticamības problēmu šajā kontekstā. Otrajā un trešajā nodaļā ieskicētas ar Svēto Grālu saistītās teorijas laikā no 12. gadsimta līdz mūsdienu kriptovēstures žanram. Visus teorētiskos apsvērumus ilustrē piemēri no U. Eko daiļrades. Ceturtā nodaļa piedāvā romānu „Bodolīno” un „Fuko svārsts” semiotisku analīzi, īpašu uzmanību pievēršot Svētā Grāla tēlam, meklējumu sižetam un personāžiem. Secinājumos minēts, ka analizētajos U. Eko romānos galvenais konflikts sakņojas atšķirībās starp personāžiem, kuri pārstāv zinātnisko un mitoloģisko domāšanas veidu.

Master thesis “The Holy Grail Motifs in Umberto Eco’s Fiction” consists of four major parts. The first chapter introduces to the notions of ‘myth’ and ‘legend’, characterizes the features and functions of mythological thinking and considers the problem of reliability within this context. The second and third chapters outline the theories of the Holy Grail legends since the 12th C. to contemporary genre of crypto-history. All theoretical assumptions are illustrated by examples from U. Eco’s fiction. The fourth chapter offers semiotic analysis of Baudolino and Foucault’s Pendulum, paying special attention to the image of the Holy Grail, the quest plot and the characters. The conclusions suggest that the main conflict of the analysed U. Eco’s novels is rooted in differences between characters representing scientific and mythological thinking.
