Abstract
Maģistra darbā autore pēta ekstensīvās lasīšanas ietekmi uz vārdu krājuma paplašināšanu. Šī darba mērķis is noskaidrot, kādā veidā ekstensīvā lasīšana var palīdzēt skolēniem papildināt savu vārdu krājumu. Teorētiskajā daļā apskatītas lasīšanas metodes, sakarība starp lasīšanu un leksikas zināšanām, stratēģijas, skolotāja loma un grūtības valodas mācīšanās procesā. Empīriskā daļa sastāv no eksperimentālās mācīšanos apraksta un rezultatiem. Apkopojot datus tika secināts, ka grupa, kura izmantoja ekstensīvās lasīšanas metodi, progresēja straujāk nekā otra. Var secināt, kā ekstensīvā lasīšana paplašina skolēnu vārdu krājumu.

The present MA research investigates the impact of extensive reading on vocabulary growth. Its purpose is to explore how extensive reading might help students to replenish their word stock. The theoretical part focuses on the theories of reading, the relations between reading and vocabulary knowledge, the strategies, the role of a teacher, and the problems that students encounter in the process of learning. The empirical part consists of a description of the pilot study and its results. The data collection tools showed that the group which used extensive reading programme made more significant progress than the group which used only the course book. It is concluded that extensive reading has replenished the students’ vocabulary. Key words: teaching extensive reading, vocabulary improvement, reading and vocabulary strategies, context.
