Darbs ir veltīts izaugsmes tēmai Ļeva Tolstoja autobiogrāfiskā triloģijā. Autora mērķis ir atrast un izpētīt vides ietekmi uz galvenā varoņa rakstura būtību, bērna, pusaudža un jaunieša vecumposmā. Pētījuma priekšmets ir Ļeva Tolstoja pedagoģisko skatu specifika. Darba aktualitāte aptver audzināšanas specifiku XVIII-XIX gadsimtā, kas ir atspoguļota stāstā.
