Abstract
Pētījumā piedalījās 62 ieslodzītie - vīrieši (vecumā no 20-63 gadiem) no Rīgas Centrālcietuma.
The prison environment restricts inmate freedom, physically and socially isolating them from the rest of society. In order to ensure a humane and appropriate environment for inmate rehabilitation and later, successful reintegration into society, it is necessary to understand inmate physical, psychological and social environment factors, and their relationship to one another. Thus, the goal of this research paper is to understand the statistical relationship between inmate sleep quality, emotion regulation skills, and sense of fairness in the prison environment. Sixty-two respondents (male, ages 20-63) from Riga’s Central Prison partook in the research. Respondents filled out theSleep Quality Index, the Emotion Regulation Skill Questionnaire, and a question about whether they felt they were treated fairly. Spearman correlation analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between quality of sleep and a sense of fairness, however significant correlation between emotion regulation skills and quality of sleep, or a sense of fairness was not found. The results of this paper suggest the possible role of sense of fairness in qualitative sleep in prison, though further research is necessary to better understand this relationship.
