Abstract
The study aimed to examine associations and differences between parenting sense of competence, self-compassion, and personal growth in mothers and fathers after childbirth. The sample included 181 first-time parents (117 mothers and 64 fathers). Three questionnaires were used: Parenting Sense of Competence Scale, Self-Compassion Scale, and Posttraumatic Growth Inventory. In mothers, all variables were significantly related; in fathers, parenting competence was related to self-compassion, and self-compassion to personal growth. For mothers, both parenting competence and self-compassion predicted growth; for fathers, only self-compassion. Fathers showed higher parenting satisfaction and self-compassion, while mothers showed higher personal growth.
