Abstract
The recreation sector plays a crucial role not only in attracting visitors but also in enhancing the well-being of local residents by offering opportunities for leisure, as well as physical and mental development. However, the current supply of such services—particularly in Latvia’s regions — has not yet reached its full potential. A lack of uniqueness in service offerings limits the accessibility of activities that could suit a wide range of interests for diverse individuals. One of the main barriers to introducing new services is the significant investment required for developing new infrastructure. Nevertheless, potential solutions may lie in the utilization of existing regional assets. The aim of this master’s thesis is to enhance the recreation offer in the South Kurzeme region by enhancing the existing go-kart track in Rude. To achieve this goal, the thesis explores the current state of recreation in Latvia, with a particular focus on the South Kurzeme region and its offerings. Based on the conducted research, including expert interviews, the core issue was identified as the underdeveloped infrastructure for active recreation. As a result, a project proposal was developed, featuring multiple potential alternatives, from which the most advantageous option was selected. A detailed project handbook was prepared for the chosen alternative.
