Abstract
A. Fišera dzīvesgājuma izpētei apkopoti nepublicēti arhīvu materiāli, savukārt, kolekcijas satura identificēšanai izmantotas LCZB inventāra grāmatas un elektroniskā kataloga dati.
The master`s thesis “August Fischer and his book collection in the collection of Liepāja Central Scientific Library” analyzes the personality of the bibliophile August Fischer (1882–1954) and his book collection, which was incorporated into the collection of the Liepāja Central Scientific Library (LCSL) in 1936. The aim of this study is to examine A. Fischers life and to identify and describe his book collection, attempting to reveal its contents, origins, and formation aspects. The theoretical framework of the study is based on the principles of axiology, highlighting the value of the collection and its importance in preserving Latvia`s cultural heritage. The research employs various methods, including biographical reconstruction, document analysis, bibliometrics, and provenance research. Unpublished archival materials were gathered to investigate A. Fischers life, while LCSL inventory books and electronic catalog data were used to identify the contents of the collection. The findings of the study shed light on August Fischer life journey and trace the path of his book collection to the LCSL holdings, while also describing the collection's contents and emphasizing its cultural and historical significance. The research reveals several distinctive features of the A. Fischers collection, indicating the need for further, more detailed studies in the future. This thesis represents a significant contribution to the study of Latvian library history, potentially inspiring further in-depth interest in the diversity and significance of the A. Fisher collection and its role in the history of Latvian book culture.
