Abstract
The change in British foreign policy during the late 19th and early 20th century and Great Britain’s entrance into the First World War has been widely debated in the British and American History Literature. During the early 20th century Britain settled imperial discords first with France, and later with Russia. Although no formal agreement committed Britain to fight on her Entente partner’s side, British foreign policy in years before the First World War was tended to prevent Germany crushing France and Russia. In August 1914 Great Britain could not afford to stand aside in the German – French war.
