Abstract

During the development of bachelor`s thesis, options of using modified peat for phosphate removal from waste water were studied. In the research there were used 5 types of different peat samples and 1 peat by-product that were modified with ferric chloride hexahydrate. The results that show that modified peat is effective sorbent and can attach phoshates from waste water with almost maximum efficiency. During the research it was concluded that the modified peat, that was gained from the bog Gāgu, can adsorb phosphates from the waste water as good as the methods that are used in the treatment plants at the moment. Key words: modified peat, waste water purification, phosphates, biosorbents
