Abstract
The relationships of the private forest owners in Latvia with their forest are analysed from three perspectives – ownership, knowledge and agency. The study utilized interdisciplinary approach, by combining actor-network theory (ANT) and ecosystem services’ framework. Study data were obtained in seven go-along interviews in Southern and Central Kurzeme and Southern Latgale. The relationships of the private forest owners with their forests are formed in the interaction of the studied perspectives, Private forest owners, their forests and a number of other agents are contained in networks of continuous interactions and shifting relationships. Ecosystem services’ approach is useful for a detailed anthropocentric analysis of benefits provided by nature and factors influencing them. ANT is a suitable method for characterizing complex relationships that encompass both human and nonhuman agents.
