Abstract
Intertextuality can be found everywhere, where there are or have been texts and discussions of said texts. The goal of the research is to determine the functions of intertextuality use in Terry Pratchett’s books about Death and the benefits and issues of intertextuality use. Intertextuality offers various benefits to the authors, but it also causes issues for readers, translators and researchers. Through semiotic analysis, it was found that in Terry Pratchett’s writing, intertextuality is used for comedic function, for creating a sense of familiarity, as a world-building tool and as means of expressing praise or criticism, and it connects the text to other related texts or a genre.
