Abstract
The aim of the diploma thesis is to evaluate the impact of non-formal education methods on the motivation of 10th-grade students to learn the Spanish language. The theoretical part examines the growing popularity of Spanish in Latvia, youth psychology and motivation, differences between formal and non-formal education, and the integration of non-formal methods in schools. The empirical part includes two surveys and a focus group discussion with students from Talsi State Gymnasium. The results show that non-formal methods enhance motivation by promoting a positive atmosphere, a sense of belonging, and autonomy, though teachers must provide clear instructions and time for feedback. The thesis presents proposals to develop a subject standard, adapt approaches to student interests, offer creative and practical tasks, and raise awareness about the usefulness of the Spanish language in Latvia. Keywords: Spanish language acquisition in Latvia, development of youth psychology, student motivation, non-formal education.
