Darba mērķis ir analizēt klasiskā perioda tālas valodas pragmatikas, kuru pārstāv tādi autori, kā Džons Ostins, Džons Serls un Pols Graiss, skatījumu uz metaforu. Šis skatījums ir veidojies uz semantisko orientēto metaforas teoriju (Aristoteliskās un Maksa Bleka mijiedarbības teorijas) kritikas bāzes, izmantojot valodas pragmatikas teorētisko instrumentāriju. Aplūkotās pragmatiski orientētās metaforas teorijas piedāvātā ‘metodi’, kā burtiskos sacījumus nošķirt no metaforām. Tāpat tiek piedāvātas stratēģijas, kā metaforu interpretēt. Tomēr neatrisināts paliek jautājums par metaforas definīciju. Ir atrodami radošu un sarežģītu metaforu piemēri, kuri nepakļaujas šo teoriju piedāvātajām interpretācijas stratēģijām. The aim of this paper is to analyze the treatment of metaphor from the perspective of the far-side pragmatics of the classic period, represented by such authors as John Austin, John Searle, and Paul Grice. This account has been built on the criticism of the semantically oriented theories of metaphor (Aristotelian view and Max Black’s interaction theory) using the tools provided by the theories of pragmatics. Pragmatically oriented theories of metaphor provide both a ‘method’ for isolating metaphorical utterances and strategies for interpreting metaphors. Nevertheless, the question about the definition of metaphor is still unsettled. There are instances of creative and complicated metaphors that do not comply with the interpretational strategies of those theories. This gives reason to question the feasibility of any theory of metaphor.
