dc.description.abstract | Utilitārisms ir ētiskā teorija, kura rīcības morālo vērtību nosaka, balstoties uz tās spējā palielināt labumu pēc iespējas vairāk cilvēkiem. Darba mērķis ir izpētīt, ko nozīmē būt utilitāristam, kādus pienākumus šī morāle uzliek un kādu labumu sniedz cilvēkam un sabiedrībai kopumā. Šim nolūkam tiek aprakstītas un salīdzinātas divu utilitāristu – Džona Stjuarta Milla un Pītera Singera filozofijas.
Abi autori reducē visas vērtības uz vienu galīgo labumu – cilvēku apmierinājumu. Autoru domas atšķiras apmierinājuma definēšanā: Millam tā ir laime un sāpju trūkums, bet Singeram- tās cilvēka intereses, kam viņš dod priekšroku. Būt utilitāristam nozīmē būt altruistam un atteikties no savtīgām vēlmēm par labu kopējam labumam.
Atslēgvārdi: utilitārisms, derīguma jeb lielākās laimes princips, kaitējuma princips, preferenču utilitārisms, liberālisms, bioētika. | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Utilitarianism is an ethical theory that bases the moral worth of an action on how much it increases the good for the maximum amount of people. The aim of this work is to find out what it means to be a utilitarian, what duties it imposes and what good it brings to an individual and the society. For this purpose the philosophies of two utilitarians – John Stuart Mill and Peter Singer – have been described and compared.
Both authors reduce all ethical values to one highest good – human satisfaction. The views of both authors differ in defining the satisfaction. For Mill it is happiness and the absence of pain. For Singer – the preferred interests of people. To be a utilitarian means to be an altruist and to reject selfish desires for the interest of common good.
Key words: utilitarianism, utility or the greatest happiness principle, harm principle, preference utilitarianism, liberalism, bioethics. | en_US |
