The Tudor dynasty is credited with implementing a determined administration of the Realm and politics strengthening the monarchical power. However during their reign the throne of England experienced an armed revolt and two queens that were officially declared illegitimate. The aim of this research is to explore the reasons behind the succession problems in the lifetime of Elizabeth I (1533-1503) – the youngest representative of the contradictory Tudors.
The examination of the events of the period and documents determining the succession to the throne by the Tudor monarchs helps ascertain the individual approach of each monarch in relation to regulating the royal hereditary right. In result a conclusion was drawn that the complex character of the succession policy was influenced by national, religious and gender issues.
