Attieksme pret turkiem Anglijas sabiedrībā Elizabetes I laikā

Abstract

Bakalaura darbs apskata priekšstatus par Osmaņu impēriju un turkiem 16. gadsimta otrās puses angļu sabiedrībā. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir apzināt Elizabetes I laika angļu autoru darbos atspoguļoto attieksmi pret turkiem un Osmaņu impēriju un raksturot, kā arī savstarpēji salīdzināt tendences Elizabetes I laika angļu sabiedrības priekšstatos par turkiem militārajā, islāma ticības un Osmaņu impērijas varas kontekstā. Pētījuma pamatā ir izmantoti Elizabetes I laika angļu ceļotāju, dramaturgu, garīdznieku un pētnieku sarakstītie literārie darbi par turku jautājumu. Avotu analīze atklāj, ka Elizabetes I laika angļu sabiedrības attieksmē pret turkiem dominēja priekšstati par turku kareivīgumu, asinskāri, varaskāri un velnišķīgumu, ko angļu sabiedrība cieši saistīja ar piederību islāma ticībai.

The Bachelor's theses examines the 16th century English perception of the Ottoman empire and Turks. The objective of the research is to identify the attitude towards Turks and the Ottoman empire in Elizabethan literature, and to describe, as well as mutually compare trends in the Elizabethan perception of Turks in the context of military power, Islamic faith and Ottoman rule. The research is based on the works of Elizabethan travelers, playwrights, clergymen and scholars on the Turkish matter. The source analysis shows that the dominant Elizabethan perception on Turks was the idea of their violence, blood-thirst, power-lust and devilish features, which in the eyes of the Elizabethan society was closely related to Turkish Islamic faith.
