Ārprāts un māksla Timotija Findlija romānos "Piligrims" un "Skalpu mednieks"

Abstract

Kanādas postmodernisma rakstnieka Timotija Findlija romāni „Skalpu mednieks” un „Piligrims” iztirzā tādus pretstatu pārus kā: ārprāts/saprāts, māksla/tukšums un izdomājums/realitāte. Ārprāts un māksla ir pastāvīgi vadmotīvi Findlija romānos. Apskatot dažādus jēdzienus par to, kas ir māksla, atskatoties uz ārprāta vēsturi un kā attieksme pret ārprātu vēstures gaitā ir mainījusies, kā arī psihiatrijas attīstību, maģistra darbā tiks demonstrēta saistība starp ārprātu un mākslu Findlija romānos „Skalpu mednieks” un „Piligrims”. Pētījuma rezultāti parāda, ka Findlijs savos romānos psihiatriju attēlo kā draudus cilvēka brīvai gribai un radošumam. Findlijs turklāt pierāda, ka tie, kuri tiek uztverti kā „ārprātīgi”, ir tie, kuri īstenībā redz patiesību. Līdz ar to „ārprātīgie” var tik uztverti kā mākslas avoti, jo māksla ir „patiesība kas sevi darbina”.

The Canadian postmodernist writer Timothy Findley’s novels Headhunter and Pilgrim examine dualities such as madness/sanity, art/void and fiction/reality. Madness and art are two recurrent leitmotifs in Findley’s novels. By looking at the different concepts of art, the history of madness and how it has been perceived throughout history and the development of psychotherapy, the master paper will demonstrate the contiguity of art and madness in Findley’s novels Headhunter and Pilgrim. The study reveals that in his novels Findley portrays psychiatry as a threat to a person’s free will and creativity. Moreover, he argues that those perceived as ‘mad’ are the ones who actually see the truth, thus they may be seen as a source of art, which is ‘truth setting itself to work’.
