Reģistra atkarīgu apstākļa vārdu lietojums Britu Nacionālajā Korpusā

Abstract

Jaunākās literatūras un pētījumu (Biber et.al.1999; 2002; Carter and McCarthy, 2006; Chen, 2006; Liu, 2008) pārskats par angļu apstākļa vārdu lietojumu saistībā ar valodas reģistru atklāj nepilnības apstākļa vārdu analīzes metodoloģijā un empīriskajā izpētē. Šī bakalaura darba mērķis ir pārbaudīt un pierādīt iepriekš veikto pētījumu rezultātus, kā arī atklāt jaunus datus un faktus par apstākļa vārdu lietojumu formālajā/neformālajā valodas reģistrā. Empīrisku datu iegūšanai tika analizēts un salīdzināts divdesmit dažādu apstākļa vārdu lietojums Britu Nacionālā Korpusa (BNC) mutvārdu, kā arī rakstu valodas krājumos. Dotajā pētījumā tika analizēti tādi aspekti kā: atšķirība starp apstākļa vārdu kopsummām abos krājumos; proporcijas starp apstākļa vārdu dažādiem veidiem, analīze par apstākļa vārdu pozīcijām teikumā, kā arī konkrēto apstākļa vārdu lietojuma pazīmes mutvārdu un rakstu valodas krājumos. Veikto pētījumu rezultāti uzskatāmi demonstrē to, ka pastāv zināmas atšķirības starp apstākļa vārdu lietojumu dažādos reģistros, ar to pierādot šī darba izvirzīto hipotēzi. Rezultāti tika salīdzināti ar agrāk veiktiem pētījumiem, kā arī tika izteiktas rekomendācijas saistībā ar angļu apstākļa vārdu pareizu lietošanu akadēmiskajos tekstos

The review of the recent literature and studies in general on English adverbials in relation with register (Biber et.al.1999; 2002; Carter and McCarthy, 2006; Chen, 2006; Liu, 2008) reveals a gap in empirical research and methodology on adverbial analysis. The present BA thesis aims to verify the results of earlier studies which already have been made, as well as to reveal new findings regarding the specifics of adverbial use across formal and informal registers. To obtain the empirical data, twenty different adverbials were analyzed and compared across spoken and written corpora of the British National Corpus (BNC), putting the emphasis on such aspects as the difference between the total numbers of adverbials in both corpora, proportions of adverbial types, preference of the adverbial position in the clause, as well as specific features of certain analyzed adverbials. The results of the analysis demonstrate that there are differences between the use of adverbials in different registers, by that verifying the hypothesis. The results are compared with earlier studies, and recommendations are given regarding the proper use of English adverbials in academic texts.
