Šausmu estētika E.A.Po darbos

Abstract

Bailes ir viena no spēcīgākajām cilvēka emocijām, tādēļ tās tiek aplūkotas daudzos literatūras veidos, sākot no folkloras un beidzot ar šausmu stāstiem. Viens no labakājiem šausmu stāstu autoriem ir amerikānis Edgars Alans Po. Viņa devums literatūrā tiek vērtēts pretrunīgi, tādēļ ir interesanti tuvāk izpētīt Po darbu īpatnības. Šajā bakalaura darbā tiek apskatīta šausmu literatūras veidu attīstība un E.A. Po vieta un loma šajā procesā. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir atrast šausmu literatūras estētikai tipiskos elementus Po darbos. Izvirzītā mērķa sasniegšanai autore izpētīja šausmu literatūras vēsturi un ievērojamāko literatūras kritiķu darbus, kas definē šausmu literatūras īpašības, kā biedējošu iespaidu uz lasītāju, savdabīgu tematu izvēli un īpatnēju tekstu struktūru. Ņemot vērā iegūto informāciju, autore analizēja populārākos Po šausmu stāstus, aplūkojot to tipiskākās iezīmes. Stāstu analīze pierādīja, ka tajos patiešām saskatāmas skaidras šausmu estētikas iezīmes, kā biedējoši temati, dziļš un pārliecinoši uzrakstīts ieskats cilvēku psihologijā un tipiskie šausmu stāstu elementi.

Fear is one of the most important human emotions, therefore there are many types of literature that deal with it – from folklore to horror fiction. The American author Edgar Allan Poe is an important representative of the latter. His literary legacy is controversial, therefore it is interesting to analyse it in greater detail. In this paper the author gives an overview of the evolution of horror literature and the role and importance of E.A. Poe in this development. The aim of the paper is to explore the typical elements of the aesthetics of horror in Poe’s stories. To achieve that aim, the author reviewed the theoretical literature about horror fiction and the works of prominent literary critics, in which the most important qualities of horror fiction are defined. Then the author analysed the most popular stories by E.A. Poe, paying attention to their most typical features. The analysis proved that E.A. Poe’s stories are good examples of horror literature because they have the features of horror aesthetic.
