Tēmas, motīvi un simboli Edgara Alana Po darbos

Abstract

Bakalaura darbs ir veltīts motīvu, tēmu un simbolu pētījumam Edgara Alana Po stāstos. Darba mērķis ir izpētīt kategorijas, kurās var iedalīt Po stāstu tēmas, un interpretēt tās. Izvirzītie darba uzdevumi ir: izpētīt jēdzienu „tēma”, „motīvs” un „simbols” nozīmi, atrast Po rakstīšanas stila īpatnības Romantisma kontekstā, atklāt atkārtotas tēmas lomu Po prozā, noteikt Po daiļrades ietekmi uz vēlako literatūras gaitu, visbeidzot, analizēt rezultātus un izdarīt atbilstošus secinājumus. Darbā tika pielietota teksta analīze. Darba autore secina, ka tēmas par mentālo un fizisko spīdzināšanu, noslēpumiem, nāvi un zāļu lietošanu – tās nav tikai iezīmes, kas parādās gotu literatūrā, bet tie ir fakti, kas notika Edgara Alena Po dzīvē un stipri ietekmēja viņa daiļradi.

The present Bachelor thesis is dedicated to investigation of themes, motifs and symbols in short stories written by Edgar Allan Poe. The aim of this paper is to classify themes in Edgar Poe’s short stories, to define it significance and make an interpretation. The objectives are as follows: to investigate the meaning and concept of terms “theme”, ”motif” and “symbol”, find out particular qualities of Poe’s writing style in context of Romanticism, to define a role of symbols in Poe’s prose and to develop a significance of Poe’s works and what influence Poe’s literary work had on following development of literature, and finally to analyse the findings and draw relevant conclusions. The method of the research applied at the present paper is analysis of texts, comparison, contrasting.
