Varas un pretošanās diskursi Deivida Mitčela romānā "Mākoņu atlants"

Abstract

Šī maģistra darbs analīzē Deivida Mitčela politisko romānu Mākoņu Atlants, koncentrējoties uz apspiedošas varas izpausmēm, ka arī uz darbībām kas pretojas šai varai. Darbs apskata radītas ideoloģijas un to ietekmi uz sabiedrību, ka arī to ka paša vara izmanto un veido zināšanas lai pati sevi paplašināt. Šīs pētījums koncentrējas uz četrām apspiedošas varas izpausmes veidiem: autoritāro valsts varu, koloniālo varu, patriarhālo varu un institūciju varu. Pētījums izmanto piederošas kritiskas literatūras koncepcijas un metodes lai sasniegtu labāku izpratni par varas un tai pretošanās diskursiem. Pētījums izmeklē katru stāstījuma daļu ņemot vērā vienu no šīm teorijām: Fuko (Foucault) kritisko teoriju, feminisma kritisko teoriju, postkoloniālo kritiku, ka arī diezgan jaunu teoriju – vecāku cilvēku diskriminācijas teoriju (ageism).

The present Master thesis analyses David Mitchell’s political novel Cloud Atlas, focusing on oppressive power manifestations as well as on the actions of resistance to power. More specifically, it examines produced ideologies and their influence on a society, as well as how power uses and creates knowledge to augment itself. The current research concentrates on four types of oppressive power manifestations: authoritarian state power, colonial power, patriarchal power and power of total institutions. In order to reach a better understanfing of discourses of power and resistance, the research employs relevant concepts and methods of Critical theory. That is, the present research looks at each narrative in the sequence of the novel from the point of view of one or more of the following literary and critical theories: Foucauldian criticism, feminist criticism, postcolonial criticism, and, a relatively new one – ageism.
