Simbolu nozīme postkoloniālajā literatūrā (J. M. Coetzee “Disgrace”)

Abstract

Šajā disertācijā ir pētīta simbolu nozīme postkoloniālajā literatūrā. Galvenais pētījuma mērķis bija analizēt simbolus dienvidāfrikāņu autora J. M. Coetzee novelē „Disgrace” un noteikt, vai simbolu slānis šajā tekstā sniedz nozīmīgu ieguldījumu autora kritikā par sociopolitiskajām problēmām, kas pastāv Dienvidāfrikā pēc aparteīda. Lai realizētu šo mērķi, tika veikta atbilstošās informācijas un teorētisko materiālu analīze, kā arī noveles simbolu interpretatīvā analīze. Tika atklāts, ka vairāki varoņi un tēli novelē „Disgrace” simbolizē problēmas un grūtības, ar kurām saskaras postkolonālās Dienvidāfrikas sabiedrība. Līdz ar to, var secināt, ka simboli spēlē nozīmīgu lomu postkoloniālajā literatūrā, jo tie var atklāt autora uzskatus par postkoloniālo realitāti.

In this thesis, the role of symbols in post-colonial literature is investigated. The main purpose of the research was to analyse symbols in Disgrace by the South African novelist J. M. Coetzee and to determine if the layer of symbols in the novel makes a significant contribution to his post-colonial critique of the socio-political issues that exist in post-apartheid South Africa. To achieve this goal, an analysis of relevant background information and theoretical material and an interpretive analysis of symbols in the novel were carried out. The results show that several characters and images in Disgrace symbolise the issues and struggles in the post-colonial South African society. Therefore, it was concluded that symbols are essential in post-colonial literature and may reveal the author’s views on the reality of post-colonial life.
