Baiļu un vilinājuma semiotika - monstri kultūrā

Abstract

Vampīri, vilkači, spoki – šīs un daudzas citas pārdabiskas būtnes ir sastopamas jebkurā kultūrā, katrai no tām pildot savu īpašu funkciju. Tomēr visām ir kaut kas kopīgs – tā ir viņu spēja modināt divas šķietami nesavienojamas sajūtas – bailes un vilinājumu. Kontekstu briesmoņu eksistencei mūsdienās sniedz šausmu žanra literatūras un kinematogrāfijas darbi, kas turpinā radīt jaunus un arvien biedējošākus monstrus. Šī darba mērķis bija izpētīt šausmu žanra baiļu un vilinājuma paradoksu kopumā un konkrēti šī žanra monstrus, sniedzot piemērus no literatūras un filmām.

Vampires, werewolves, ghosts – these and many other monstrous creatures can be met in every culture, each of them serving its own function. However, there is one thing they have in common and that is their ability to arouse two seemingly incompatible feelings – fear and allure. Nowadays, the context for monsters’ existence is majorly provided by literary and cinematic works of horror genre which continue engendering new and each time more frightening monsters. The goal of this paper was to study the paradox of fear and allure of the horror genre in general and, more particularly, the monstrous figure within the genre, providing examples from literature and films.
