Leksēmas "such" semantika un sintakse

Abstract

Šis bakalaura darbs apskata leksēmas SUCH – šķietami vienkārša un bieži lietota vārda –semantiku un sintaksi, kuram vārdnīcas izšķir daudzas nozīmes, kā arī piedēvē vairākas vārdšķiras. 1. nodaļā, izmantojot vairākas angļu valodas vārdnīcas, veikts detalizēts SUCH nozīmju pārskats, kura nobeigumā piedāvāts visu dažādo nozīmju kopsavilkums. 2. nodaļā nozīmīgākajos angļu valodas gramatikas resursos leksēma SUCH tiek pētīta visās gramatiskajās kategorijās, kurās tai būtu jāatrodas saskaņā ar vārdnīcās sniegto informāciju. Pēdējā nodaļā, izmantojot angļu valodas korpusus, tiek pētīts leksēmas SUCH reālais lietojums valodā ar mērķi atklāt tipiskos vārdu savienojumus un frāzes, kurās leksēma SUCH atrodama. Pētījums parāda, ka SUCH ir polisemantisks vārds un vārdnīcu sniegtās definīcijas pilnībā neatspoguļo tā polisemantisko dabu.

This Bachelor Paper explores the semantics and syntax of the lexeme SUCH – a seemingly simple and frequently used word which, nevertheless, is described by dictionaries by means of many senses as well as placed in various grammatical categories. Chapter 1 provides a detailed overview of SUCH as defined by a number of English language dictionaries and concludes with a summary of its various meanings. Chapter 2 makes use of the major English reference grammars to investigate all of the grammatical categories in which SUCH is supposedly found as stated by dictionaries, and reveals whether it is found in all of them. The final chapter by means of a corpus study looks at the usage of SUCH in actual language with the aim of revealing its typical collocates and fixed expressions in which SUCH is found. The study demonstrates that SUCH is a polyseme and the definitions provided by dictionaries do not fully reflect its polysemantic nature.
