Attieksme pret sievieti un tās lomu sabiedrībā Tomasa Hārdija romānos

Abstract

Šis bakalaura darbs pēta attieksmi pret sievieti un viņas sociālo lomu Tomasa Hārdija romānos “Tālu no trokšņainā pūļa”, “Mūžīgā atgriešanās”, “Tesa no d’Erbervilu cilts” un “Džūda neievērojamais”. Darbs sastāv no divām nodaļām. Teorētiskajā nodaļā autore aplūko tēmu par sievieti 19. gadsimta Anglijas sabiedrībā, pieminot pieņemtus stereotipus par sievietēs lomu karalienes Viktorijas laikā, attēlojot 19. gadsimta sievieti, kuras individualitāte bija bieži pretrunā ar sabiedriskajiem uzskatiem, kā arī iztirzājot sievietēm svarīgas tēmas kā tās, atspoguļotas Tomasa Hārdija literārajos darbos. Praktiskā nodaļa analizē Tomasa Hārdija attēlotās feminisma izpausmes, dabas un sabiedrības pretrunīgas vajadzības, sievietes pasivitāti pret vīriešu valdonīgumu, kā arī karalienes Viktorijas laika laulības institūciju izvēlētajos romānos. Darba autore uzskata, ka šīs tēmas atklāj ievērojamu neatbilstību starp uzspiestajiem viedokļiem par sievietes lomu 19. gadsimta Anglijas sabiedrībā un sieviešu centieniem apliecināt savu individualitāti.

The present Bachelor Paper deals with the issue of the social role and treatment of women in Thomas Hardy’s novels ““Far from the Madding Crowd”, “The Return of the Native”, “Tess of the d’Urbervilles”, and “Jude the Obscure”. The paper contains two chapters. In the theoretical part of the paper, the author explores the issue of the woman and the society in the 19th century England, by introducing the Victorian stereotypes of women in the English culture of the 19th century, delineating the portrait of the late 19th century woman, whose individualism was often contrary to the society’s expectations, as well as outlining the Victorian women’s issues raised in Thomas Hardy’s literary works. The practical part of the paper provides the analysis of Tomas Hardy’s depiction of the rise of feminism, conflicting demands of nature and society, women’s passivity toward dominant men, and Victorian institution of marriage in the selected novels. The author of the paper argues that these themes reveal a considerable inconsistency between the imposed views of the 19th century English society upon the social role of women and the women’s striving for the manifestation of their individuality.
