This bachelor’s thesis main goal is to observe cooking and eating practices amongst young adults living together in a shared apartment, to identify the aspects affecting the practices performed and to analyze the meaning and the context informants assign to the practices performed. Food preparing and eating practices are investigated taking into consideration the fact that shared apartment is a multi-faceted phenomenon, and that is why food habits cannot be viewed separately from the whole. Thus in addition it is also looked at how young adults define the concept of the shared apartment and what role does the space play in the process of performing development of individual identities and definition of relationship.
The results show that the kitchen in the shared apartment and everything that happens there (cooking, eating, celebrating special occasions, random meeting) can be viewed as playing an important role in the process of constructing young adults individual identity as well as young adults formation as a social group.
Keywords: shared apartment, young adults, space, food, cooking.
