Ūdensmalas nozīme Latvijas pilsētās: Valmieras piemērs

Abstract

Maģistra darba nosaukums ir ‘Ūdensmalas nozīme Latvijas pilsētās: Valmieras piemērs’. Darbā tiek aprakstīta ūdensmalas nozīme pilsētās kopumā. Ūdensmalu nozīme, attīstība un fiziskie apdraudējumi Latvijas pilsētās. Tiek veikts detalizēts ūdensmalu raksturojums Latvijas pilsētās. Nodaļā par Valmieru ir ūdensmalas raksturojums un loma pilsētas attīstībā, ūdensmalas funkcionālā izmantošana un nozīme, kā arī nodaļa par sabiedrību un ūdensmalu. Mūsdienās ūdensmalas tiek uzskatītas par pilsētas publiskās ārtelpas vienu no svarīgākajām teritorijām, cenšoties tās vērst sabiedrībai atvērtas un pieejamas. Tiek veidotas daudzfunkcionālas apbūves teritorijas, veidotas un atjaunotas dabas un apstādījumu teritorijas. Arī Latvijas pilsētas vēsturiski attīstījušās dažādu ūdensobjektu krastos. Darba mērķis ir noskaidrot ūdensmalas nozīmi, esošo situāciju un izmantošanu Latvijas pilsētās, arī vēsturisko attīstību un sabiedrības attieksmi. Par tuvāk pētāmo pilsētu ir izraudzīta Valmiera. Latvijas pilsētu attīstība un simbolika ir saistīta ar ūdensobjektiem, kuru krastos tās atrodas. Lai gan pilsētu centri ir salīdzinoši tuvu ūdensobjektiem, visvairāk pilsētu ūdensmalās ir teritorijas, kurās nekas nav- nedz apbūve, nedz dabas un apstādījumu teritorijas. Arī Valmieras pilsētā mijas sakoptas un labiekārtotas ūdensmalas teritorijas ar nesakoptām, tomēr Valmieras iedzīvotāji aktīvi izmanto ūdensmalu dažādos veidos. Iedzīvotāju iecienītākās atpūtas un pastaigu vietas ūdensmalā lielākoties nav mainījušās daudzu gadu garumā, tomēr ir vietas, pret kurām mainās attieksme, pašām vietām nemainoties. The title of the present master’s paper is ‘The relevance of waterfront in Latvian towns: The case of Valmiera’. The study describes the relevance of waterfront in cities and towns on the whole. Then, the relevance and development of waterfronts in Latvian cities and towns and the physical threats to these waterfronts are dealt with. A detailed characterization of waterfronts in Latvian cities and towns is provided. The chapter dealing with the city of Valmiera includes a characterization of the waterfront and its role in the development of the city, the functional use and relevance of the waterfront. There is also a chapter about society and waterfront. Nowadays, waterfronts are considered as one of the most important territories in a city’s public open-air space. Efforts are made to make them open and accessible to the public. Multifunctional built-up territories are developed; nature and greenery territories are created or renewed. Historically, many Latvian cities and towns have developed at water bodies. The target of this study is to find out the relevance of waterfronts in Latvian cities and towns, the current situation and use of waterfronts as well as the historical development and the attitude of the public. The city of Valmiera has been chosen for a more detailed research. The development of Latvian cities and towns is related to the water bodies at which they are situated; this can also be seen from heraldic evidence. Although the cities’ centres are relatively close to water bodies, in most of the cities and towns there are waterfront territories that are empty – without buildings, nature or greenery territories. In Valmiera as well, developed waterfront territories alternate with places that are not in good order. Nevertheless, the residents still use the waterfront in different ways. The residents’ favourite recreation and walking places at the waterfront have mostly remained unchanged over many years; yet there are also places towards which the attitude has changed whereas the places themselves have not changed.
