Frazeoloģismu tulkošanas problēmas

Abstract

Frazeoloģija ir dažādu frazeoloģisko vienību kopums, kas avottekstā funkcionē kā noteiktas un nedalāmas formas. Šīs vienības ieņem ļoti svarīgu lomu tulkojumzinātnē, jo tās nevar tulkot burtiski un to nozīme ļoti bieži netiek atklāta frazeoloģismā izmantotajos vārdos. Šī bakalaura darba mērķis bija izpētīt frazeoloģisko vienību (t.i. idiomu, frazālo darbības vārdu, frāžu un izteicienu) tulkojumu divos Sūzenas Kolinsas romānos – „Bada spēles” un „Spēle ar uguni”, aprakstīt galvenās frazeoloģismu tulkošanas problēmas un norādīt tulkošanas procesā izmantotās tulkošanas stratēģijas. Teorētiskās pētniecības metodes tika izmantotas, lai vispārīgi aprakstītu tulkošanas un tulkojumzinātnes būtību, izpētītu Žana-Pola Vineja un Žana Darbelneta izvirzītās tulkošanas stratēģijas un aplūkotu galvenās tulkošanas problēmas ar kādām nākas saskarties tulkojot literārus darbus latviešu valodā. Empīriskās pētniecības metodi veidoja oriģinālo romānu un tulkojumu analīze. Kopumā tika analizēts 771 frazeoloģisms. Pētījumā tika atklāts, ka modulācija ir visbiežāk izmantotā frazeoloģismu tulkošanas stratēģija, un tēlainības saglabāšana tulkojumā tika atzīta par galveno frazeoloģismu tulkošanas problēmu.

Phraseology consists of various phraseological units which function as single entities in the source text. These units are of utmost importance in translation as they can not be translated word for word and their meaning can oftentimes not be deduced from the meaning of the constituent words. The aim of the present thesis was to analyse the translation of phraseological units (such as idioms, phrasal verbs, phrases and discoursal expressions) in two novels, namely ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘Catching Fire’ by Suzanne Collins, and describe the challenges of translating these units and point out the strategies applied in the translation process. Theoretical research methods comprised describing the notion of translation and illustrating translation studies as an academic discipline, depicting the translation strategies proposed by Jean-Paul Vinay and Jean Darbelnet and identifying the main translation problems when translating literature into Latvian. The empirical research methods comprised the comparative analysis of the novels. A total of 771 phraseological units were analysed in the present research. The translation strategy of modulation proved to be the most frequently applied strategy in translating phraseological units, and the retention of figurativeness acted as the main challenge of translating phraseology.
