Metafora banku un finanšu jomā lietojamā angļu valodā

Abstract

Šī darba autore pēta metaforas lietojumu banku un finanšu jomā lietojamajā angļu valodā ar mērķi apzināt visbiežāk lietoto metaforas veidu starptautiskajā biznesa izdevumā The Financial Times, kas ir izdots laika posmā no 2006. gada oktobra līdz 2007. gada decembrim, akcentējot metaforu etimoloģiju. Darba teorētiskā daļa vērš uzmanību uz metaforu kā ietekmīgu valodas izteiksmes līdzekli. Tā apskata metaforas veidus, kas visbiežāk tiek izmantoti finanšu tekstos, kuri saistīti ar akciju tirgu un valūtas tirgu. Darba praktiskajā daļā tiek analizēti metaforas veidi, kuri ir visbiežāk sastopami tekstos, kas saistīti ar akciju un valūtas tirgu, kā arī tiek apskatīta to izcelsme. Apkopotā informācija norāda uz biežo metaforas lietojumu un to svarīgo lomu banku un finanšu jomā lietojamajā angļu valodā. Secinājumi ir balstīti uz autores izpētītajiem visbiežāk lietotajiem metaforas veidiem un tās, kā ietekmīgas valodas izteiksmes līdzekļa, neaizstājamību finanšu tekstos, kuri ir saistīti ar akciju tirgu un finanšu angļu valodu kopumā. Šī darba rezultāti var tikt izmantoti tālākam pētījumam, kas virzīts uz specifisku valodas līdzekļu lietojumu angļu valodā speciāliem mērķiem.

The study examines the application of metaphors in English for Banking/ Finance, which is a subdivision of English for Specific Purposes. It aims at studying the most frequently used types of metaphor in the international business newspaper The Financial Times, printed during the period of October 2006 and December 2007. The theoretical part focuses on the issue of metaphor and on the types of metaphor that are typically used in texts on stock and foreign exchange. The present inquiry relates the theory to practice by analyzing the types of metaphor used in the articles referring to the areas of stock exchange, foreign exchange, focusing on their etymological background. The data obtained indicate the essential role of metaphors and their frequent use in English for Banking/ Finance. The conclusions about most often used types of metaphors that are used in texts on stock exchange and foreign exchange stress the irreplaceable role of metaphor as a linguistic device in the perception of the texts relating to the issue of stock exchange and English for Banking/ Finance in general. The results and conclusions drawn can be applied to a further study of a specialist language use in English for Specific Purposes.
