Modālo darbības vārdu funkcijas populārzinātniskajos tekstos

Abstract

Šī bakalaura darba mērķis bija analizēt modālo darbības vārdu funkcijas populārzinātniskajos tekstos. Darbu veido trīs nodaļas- pirmajā nodaļā apskatīts zinātniskā diskursa jēdziens, kā arī populārzinātnisko tekstu galvenās iezīmes. Otrā nodaļa sniedz pārskatu par modālajiem darbības vārdiem un to funkcijām zinātniskajā diskursā. Trešajā nodaļā tiek analizēti trīsdesmit populārzinātniskie teksti, kas publicēti divos dažādos populārzinātniskajos žurnālos, lai pētītu modālo darbības vārdu funkcijas. Empīriskā pētījuma rezultāti liecina, ka modālie darbības vārdi populārzinātniskajos tekstos sastopami visnotaļ bieži un veic atšķirīgas funkcijas, lai autora vēstījums sasniegtu mērķauditoriju pēc iespējas efektīvāk. Rezultāti rāda, ka visbiežāk lietotie modālie darbības vārdi populārzinātniskajos tekstos ir ‘can’, ‘could’, ‘should’, ‘will’, ‘would’ un visbiežāk šie modālie darbības vārdi veic tādas funkcijas kā spēja (-u) apzināšanās, paredzējums (konkrēta notikuma iespējamā realizācija nākotnē), un padoma došana. The aim of the present Bachelor’s Thesis was to analyse the functions of modal verbs in popular scientific texts. The Thesis consists of there chapters: the first chapter examines the notion of scientific discourse as well as the main features of popular scientific texts. The second chapter is devoted to the discussion of modal verbs and their functions in scientific discourse. The third chapter analyses thirty popular scientific articles from two different popular scientific magazines in order to investigate the functions of modal verbs. The results of the empirical research show that modal verbs in popular scientific texts are encountered quite frequently and they perform different functions to communicate the author’s message to the target audience more precisely. The results indicate that the most frequently used modal verbs in popular scientific texts are ‘can’, ‘could’, ‘should’, ‘will’, ‘would’ and the most frequently expressed functions of these modal verbs are ability, prediction and advice.
