ASV reģionu nosaukumu etimoloģiskā analīze

Abstract

Šis bakalaura darbs ir ASV reģionu nosaukumu etimoloģiskā analīze lingvistikas, vēstures, ģeogrāfijas un kultūras kontekstā. Darbs sastāv no trīs nodaļām, kur pirmajā - teorētiskajā nodaļā ir iztirzāta toponīmika kā lingvistiskās sistēmas sastāvdaļa; otrajā nodaļā ir apskatīti būtiskie vēstures un kultūras pagriezieni ASV attīstībā un to ietekme uz vietējo toponīmiku; trešajā nodaļā ir pētītas dominējošās tendences un galvenie faktori ASV vietvārdu attīstībā. Kopsummā šajā pētījumā ir analizēti 86 ASV reģionu nosaukumi. Pētījums ļauj secināt, ka ASV vietvārdi lielā mērā ir cēlušies ģeogrāfisku, vēsturisku, kultūras un cilvēcisku faktoru rezultātā, tomēr nosakot ģeogrāfiju kā dominējošo tendenci, kas ir ietekmējusi ASV reģionu nosaukumu izcelsmi.

Present bachelor thesis provides the etymological analysis of names of regions of the U.S.A. in the linguistic, historical, geographical and cultural context. The present paper consists of three chapters – the first chapter is theoretical, discussing toponymy in overall system of linguistics; the second chapter studies the crucial historical and cultural landmarks in the development of the U.S. and their impact on the local toponymy; the third chapter focuses on the dominant trends and the key factors in the development of the U.S. toponymy. A total of 86 names of regions of the U.S. have been examined and analyzed in this research. The results demonstrate that most of the U.S. place-names have originated due to geographical, historical, cultural and man-related factors, still singling out geography as the dominant trend in the development of names of regions of the U.S.A.
