Mīlestība un karš M. Atvudas un M. Lorensas prozā

Abstract

Ellas Kaplunes Bakalaura darbs “Karš un Mīlestība M. Atvudas un M. Lorensas prozā” pēta sievietes rakstura individualitāti caur divu vienlaicīgi konfliktējošu un savstarpēji papildinošu kara un mīlestības jēdzienu prizmu, un cenšas izprast divu dzimumu attiecību būtību. Šī darba mērķis ir izprast kara un mīlestības jēdzienu tos savstarpēji pretstatot un salīdzinot, sekojot Atvudas un Lorensas darbos radīto sieviešu tēlu dzīvēm; rakstniecei Margrietai Lorensai, kas vienlaicīgi ir arī māte romānā Rīkstnieki (1974), un četras galvenās varones Margrietas Atvudas romānā Līgava Laupītāja (1994): sieviete-vēsturniece, sieviete-māte, sieviete-uzņēmēja un sieviete-vīriešu nīdēja. Ievada daļa uzsver Otrā Pasaules kara atmiņu nozīmīgumu abu romānu varoņu biogrāfijās un izvirza uzskatu par bērnības un mātes nozīmi sieviešu, Atvudas romāna varoņu, personības veidošanās procesos. Bakalaura darba pirmajā nodaļā tiek apskatīti vairāki sievietes rakstura aspekti kara un mīlestības ietekmē, atsaucoties uz vēsturiskiem faktiem, satura struktūru, simbolu nozīmīgumu un sieviešu varoņu rakstura autobiogrāfiskajām īpatnībām. Darba otrā nodaļa ir saistīta ar to kā sievietes pašapziņu ietekmē pagātnes atmiņas, bērnība un etniskā izcelsme. Daudzpusīgo sieviešu portretu analīze apstiprina iespēju, ka abi šie jēdzieni ir līdzvērtīgi nozīmīgi. Trešā nodaļa apkopo jautājumus par neiecietību un aizspriedumiem pēckara Kanādas sabiedrībā, kā kara rezonansi un apskata mātes lomas oroelu kā mīlestības izpausmi abos romānos.

Ella Kaplune’s Bachelor paper “Love and War in M. Atwood and M. Laurence’s fiction” explores the individuality of female characters through the prism of two simultaneously contradictory and complimentary notions of Love and War and attempts to define the essence of gender relationships. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the notions of War and Love by opposing and comparing them, by following the lives of Atwood’s and Laurence’s diverse female characters; a writer who is also a mother in the novel The Diviners (1974) by Margaret Laurence, and four main heroines in The Robber Bride (1994) by Margaret Atwood: a woman-historian, a woman-mother, a woman-entrepreneur and a woman-man-eater. The introduction emphasises the importance of World War II memories in the biographies of the heroines of both novels and asserts the importance of childhood and the role of the mother in the formation of female self-hood of Atwood’s female characters. Chapter I explores multiple aspects of female nature influenced by Love and War considering historical references, plot structure, significance of symbols and autobiographical features of female characters. Chapter II is concerned with the way in which female self-consciousness is affected by memories of their past, childhood and ethnic background. Analysis of the portrayals of many-sided female characters supports the possibility of considering the two notions equally important. Chapter Ш concludes the issue of intolerance and prejudice in the post-war Canadian society and the aureole of motherhood as an expression of the love theme in both novels.
