Īpašvārdu atveide literatūras tulkojumos

Abstract

Diplomdarbā pētīta īpašvārdu loma literatūrā un to atveide tulkojumā. Vārdi literatūrā ir cieši saistīti ar avota valodu un kultūru un papildus identifikācijai tie veic arī citas funkcijas, piedaloties tēla un stāstījuma veidošanā. Tādēļ, lai gan normatīvie akti un tradīcija paredz, ka citvalodu īpašvārdus latviešu valodā transkribē, vadoties pēc to izrunas oriģinālvalodā, literāros darbos tie bieži tiek pārveidoti un tulkoti, lai vismaz daļēji saglabātu šīs papildu funkcijas un atspoguļotu vārdu nozīmi, izraisītās asociācijas un citas daiļdarba izpratnei un izjūtai svarīgas iezīmes. Tomēr ne vienmēr tas ir iespējams un vēlams. Darbā pētīts, kā vārdu funkcijas un īpašības var ietekmēt šo izvēli un atveides iespējas. Izmantoti piemēri no literāriem darbiem angļu un latviešu valodā, kā arī no tulkojumiem latviešu un krievu valodā.

The diploma paper studies the role of proper names in fiction and their representation in translation. Names in fiction are tied to source language and culture and serve a number of other tasks apart from identification, helping to construct characters and narration. Therefore, although foreign proper names are normally transcribed in Latvian, they are often translated in literary texts to preserve these additional functions and represent the meaning or connotations of names if they prove important for understanding and experiencing the literary work. Still not always it is possible and preferable. The paper discusses how functions and properties of names can influence translation decisions, illustrating the arguments with examples form literary works in English and Latvian as well as translations from English into Latvian and Russian.
