dc.description.abstract | Humic acids (HA) are one of the biologically active compunds in therapeutic mud that play an important role in developing therapeutic properties. Therapeutic mud have been used in medicine and balneotherapy for many centuries for their overall positive influence on skin. In this study extracts of various HA were used to evaluate their effect on dermal fibroblasts by assessing proliferation rate, activity of migration and accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in their presence in vitro.
It was determined that HA at low concentrations ranging from 0.5 – 10 μg/ml can be used in cosmetic preparations and in balneotherapy to prevent impact of harmful environment on skin from occurring. It was also established that HA extract effect on dermal fibroblasts is dependent on the concentration, extraction site and chemical composition of that extract.
This study was done in Cell Transplantation Centre of P.Stradiņa CUH and University of Latvia, Faculty of Biology, Department of Microbiology and biotechnology from September 2012 to May 2014.
