Pētījuma rezultāti izšķir trīs visbiežāk lietotos divu vārdu savienojumus (vārdkopa): due to; based on; number of. Visbiežāk lietotā vārdkopu uzbūve zinātniskajos rakstos ir sekojoša: lietvārds + prievārds un apstākļa vārds + prievārds. Rezultāti atklāj īpašu vārdkopu struktūru, kura ir tieši raksturīga mūsdienu zinātniskajam diskursam. Tādējādi pētījuma rezultāti apstiprina zinātnisko vārdkopu lietošanu mūsdienu Angļu valodas zinātniskajā diskursā.

The problem that lies in the focus of the present BA thesis is the use of language in the context of different scientific disciplines. The investigation of modern English scientific discourse was undertaken to study the use of English academic words co-occurring together with other words in recently published scientific articles representing three scientific disciplines. The goal of the study was to reveal the academic words that co-occur most frequently (collocations) in the compiled specialised corpus of English scientific discourse. Additionally, the purpose of the research was to identify whether the frequency of the identified collocations vary depending on the scientific discipline. The applied research method is based on collocation-via-concordance analysis of the corpus of 60 000 words, which included the most recent scientific articles from three different scientific disciplines.
The findings demonstrate that three most dominant two-word collocation strings in the corpus are due to; based on; number of. In addition, the most frequent patterns of collocation found in the research corpus are noun + preposition and adjective + preposition. The results revealed the patterns of collocations specifically used in modern scientific discourse. Thus the results of the thesis support the theoretical assumption that English scientific discourse comprises a considerable number of pre-fabricated units in which the words that constitute general scientific vocabulary co-occur in scientific texts.
