Problēmas Sāras Gruenas romāna "Water for Elephants" tulkošanā

Abstract

Diplomdarbā „Problēmas Sāras Gruenas romāna „Water for Elephants” tulkošanā” tiek aplūkotas dažādas problēmas, kas rodas, tulkojot daiļliteratūru. Šī darba mērķis ir izpētīt tulkošanas procesu, noteikt biežāk sastopamās problēmas daiļliteratūras tulkošanā, analizēt atbilstošu teorētisko materiālu par tulkošanas metodēm, aprakstīt veidu, kā tiek izvēlēts vispiemērotākais tulkošanas paņēmiens, kā arī noskaidrot, vai mērķteksts atbilst avotteksta autora iecerei. Secinājumi ir izdarīti, analizējot teorētisko materiālu par tulkošanas procesu un problēmām un analizējot tulkošanas paņēmienus, kas tika pielietoti, lai iztulkotu vārdkopas, terminoloģiju, īpašvārdus, skaņu atdarinājumus, mērvienības, slengu, dialektu, tēlainos izteiksmes līdzekļus un citus romānam „Water for Elephants” raksturīgus valodas līdzekļus. Rezultāti pierāda, ka, tulkojot daiļliteratūras darbus, vajadzētu ievērot vairākas norādes, jo tulkotāja galvenais uzdevums ir saglabāt autora stila iezīmes un vēstījumu arī mērķvalodā, ja vien tas ir iespējams. Pētījuma rezultāti un secinājumi var tikt izmantoti tulkošanas procesā, lai padarītu to efektīvāku.

The diploma paper under the title "Problems in Translating the Novel Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen" focuses on different problems which occur during the translation of fiction. The purpose of the present paper is to investigate the process of translation, to identify the most frequent problems in the translation of fiction, to analyse the relevant theoretical material on the translation methods and procedures, to discuss the process of choosing the most appropriate translation approach, as well as to find out whether the target text fulfils the intention of the author of the source text. The conclusions drawn are based on the analysis of theoretical material on translation process and issues and on the analysis of translation approaches used to translate collocations, terminology, proper nouns, sound imitations, units of measurement, slang, dialect, stylistic devices and other linguistic peculiarities of the novel Water for Elephants. The results indicate that there are several patterns which should be followed when translating expressive texts as the main task of the translator should be the rendering of the author’s style and message into the target text as precisely as possible. The results and conclusions of this research can be used in the translation process in order to make it more effective.
