Elipse angļu valodas ziņu virsrakstos

Abstract

Šī darba ietvaros tika apskatīta elipse kā gramatiskā vienība un tās izmantošana angļu periodikas virsrakstu nosaukumos. Tika arī studēts specifisku vārdšķiru izlaisšanas biežums un apskatīs, vai ir kāds specifisks elipses tips, kas pārsvarā ir izmantots virsrakstos. Darba mērķis ir pārbaudīt, vai ir īpaši elipses veidi, ko izmanto angļu periodikas virsrakstu nosaukumos un kā tieši tie un arī citi elipses veidi bija izpētīti valodniecības pētījumos. Darbs satur pētījumu par to, cik bieži angļu valodas virsrakstu nosaukumos tiek izlaisti dažādi vārdšķiri. Tas tiek analizēts, lai izveidotu norādījumus angļu virsrakstu nosaukumu rakstīšanai. Kā metodes, darba veikšanai tika izmantotas teorētisko materiālu pētīšana, kā arī autentisku piemēru apkopošana un to analīze. Pētīšanas rezultāti parādīja, ka elipse angļu valodas virsrakstos pārsvarā notiek ar dažādām darbības vārda „to be” („būt”) formām un artikuliem, tāpēc tos var vienkārši izlaist, rakstot virsrakstus. Runājot par tādām funkcionālām vārdšķirām kā citiem palīgdarbības vārdiem, saiklēm un prievārdiem – angļu virsrakstos tie bija izlaisti retāk. Noslēgumā, šī darba ietvaros tika arī atklāts, ka virsrakstu rakstīšanā jābūt ļoti uzmanīgam ar to vārdu elipsi, kuriem ir leksiskā nozīme, tāpēc ka tādi vārdi tiek izlaisti ļoti reti, jo viņu elipse var tiešām ievērojami izmainīt virsraksta nozīmi.

This research focuses primarily on the study of ellipsis as a grammatical phenomenon and its usage in English news headlines. The study also discusses such issues as the frequency of ellipsis of particular parts of speech in English, investigates whether there is a certain type of ellipsis used specifically in headlines. The purpose of the research is to verify whether there are any particular types of ellipsis used in English news headlines and how these and other types of ellipsis had been previously studied by grammarians. Moreover, the research contains an investigation of the frequency of parts of speech which are usually elided in headlines. This is being analyzed in order to deduce a guideline for writing headlines in English. The methods of research include both a study of theoretical grammar accounts and an analysis of elicited authentic headline examples from media sources. Briefly, the results of the research have shown that ellipsis in English news headlines mainly includes various forms of the verb “to be” and articles, so it is possible to seamlessly leave out these elements when writing headlines. Furthermore, such functional parts of speech as conjunctions, auxiliary verbs (other than “to be”) and prepositions are elided less frequently. Finally, this research has also discovered that one has to be cautious when eliding words that convey lexical meaning: they are rarely omitted from headlines, as this may significantly alter the meaning.
