| dc.description.abstract | ANOTĀCIJA
Bakalaura darbs atspoguļo ASV apzīmējošo ūdenstilpju etimoloģisko analīzi. Darbs sastāv no trīs nodaļām- pirmajā nodaļā iztirzāta etimiloģijas un toponīmijas vieta valodniecības sistēmā; otrā nodaļa sniedz pārskatu par toponīmu attīstību Savienotajās Valstīs, detalizētāk pievēršoties iekšējo ūdeņu atklāšanas vēsturei, faktoriem, kuri ietekmē apzīmējumu izvēli, kā arī noteikumiem toponīmu apstiprinājumam; trešajā nodaļā analizēti trīs ASV reģionu ūdenstilpes apzīmējošie toponīmi, izceļot procesa galvenās tendences. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir noskaidrot galvenās ASV ūdenstilpes apzīmējošo toponīmu attīstības tendences. Rezultāti rāda, ka ūdenstilpju apzīmēšanu ASV ietekmē cilvēciskais, kultūras, ģeogrāfiskais un vēsturiskais faktors, kultūras faktoram dominējot ūdenstilpes apzīmējošo toponīmu attīstībā Savienotajās Valstīs.

| dc.description.abstract | The present Bachelor Thesis presents the etymological analysis of names designating water bodies in the Unites States. The present paper consists of three chapters - the first chapter discusses the place of etymology and toponymy in overall system of linguistics; the second chapter provides an overview of the development of toponyms in the US, in particular the history of inland waterways, factors influencing the designation, and policies, requirements for the approval of toponyms; the third chapter presents an analysis of toponyms designating water
bodies in three regions of the USA outlining the dominant trends. The goal of the present BA thesis is to identify the main trends in the development of toponyms designating water bodies in the USA. The results demonstrate that the human, cultural, geographical and historical factors influence the designation of water bodies in the USA, the cultural factor prevailing as the dominant trend in the development of toponyms designating water bodies in the US.
